BEST OF AKLAN

If you will have the chance to come to the Philippines, don’t forget to come and visit the Province of Aklan in the Visayas with its beautiful towns and splendid tourist spot to visit and chill.

Aklan is the oldest province in the Philippines, organized in 1213 by settlers from Borneo, as the Minuro it Akean to include what is now Capiz. It became an independent province when President Magsaysay signed into law on April 25, 1956, Republic Act 1414 separating Aklan from Capiz. Aklan was inaugurated as an independent province on November 8, 1956.

Aklan encompasses the northwestern portion of Panay Island and nearby Boracay Island, both situated within the Visayas island group and having an estimated land area of 181, 789 hectares. Cadastrally located between 12°N, 11°19' S and between 121°50' W, 122°35' E,

The province of Aklan is composed of 17 municipalities and is composed of many beautiful beaches, historical sites and tourist destinations that you will be amaze and enjoy.

I have picked some of those most beautiful spots and places here in the Province of Aklan so that when you come in Aklan you will visit these places.

FESTIVALS

The Ati-Atihan, a feast in honor of the Santo NiƱo, is celebrated on the second Sunday after Epiphany. Catholics observe this special day with processions, parades, dancing, and merrymaking.

Mostly it is celebrated whole month of January. People would go street dancing with the beat of the drums. During the last three days of the festival celebrants would paint their faces and wear hoots and colofrul costumes.

By midmorning, small groups gather in their respective neighborhoods. They are prodded by drums as they dance their way to the town center. They grow in numbers as different groups from outlying areas merge into one as they get closer to the center of town. Sometimes the crowd thins as a few drop out to worship in silence and offer themselves to their own gods. But they always come back to rejoin the group to disappear in the gyrating mob. The dancing never stops.

Best of Kalibo

But of course above all is the Best place in the province. Kalibo is the capital of the Aklan province.

Kalibo is 50 minutes from Manila by plane or somewhat longer by ship through the Dumaguit or New Washington Ports on the northern tip of Aklan. Kalibo Airport is about ten minutes from the main plaza. Kalibo can also be reached directly from Incheon, South KoreaAsian Spirit and Pacific Pearl Airways.

The nearest cities are Roxas City in Capiz, and Iloilo City in Iloilo. Both are accessible by bus and minivans.

Kalibo is a gateway to Boracay island via the port of Caticlan, just 45 minutes away by land.

Public transportation around the city is by tricycle, multicab and jeepneys.

Kalibo is the best place known to its festival the well-known "ATI-ATIHAN" Festival normally held during the 3rd Sunday of January. The term Kalibo comes from the Aklanon word "sangka libo", ("one thousand"), the number of native (Ati aka aeta) people who attended the first Catholic Mass there. After this very first Mass, a celebration was held that was continued annually as the Ati-atihan festival.

From the time of the Spanish colonial administration until the institution of Pilipino as the national language in 1946, Kalibo was spelled as "Calivo".

Top 1

On my Top 1 best beautiful tourist destination in Kalibo, Aklan is the Boracay Island.

The island is voted to be the best island in the country. i am so lucky it is in our province!

Boracay is the perfect island getaway, with its warm blue waters, powder-fine white sand, and a palm fringed 4-kilometer beach.

The islands facilities and amenities make her a recreational haven. Watch February's Fun-board Cup, windsurfing's annual international event, or the World Beach Volleyball Tournament in September. Or take a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters.

After sunset, the island transforms into one exciting night of dancing and partying. But don't take our word for it, Boracay is an island you have to experience yourself.

The world-famous island of Boracay is located in Aklan province 345 kms. South of Manila. The island is accessible by air from Manila or Cebu through two principal gateways: Caticlan airport or Kalibo airport.

On the top 2 is the Tulingon Cave located in Nabas, Aklan.

It is Believed to be one of the longest caves in the Philippines. Stretches 20 kilometers from Bgy. Libertad, Nabas Aklan to Bgy. Patria, Pandan, Antique with enormous guano deposits. Iley of lush vegetation.

If you want to get out of the tropical heat just go to Basang Cold Spring or also called Horum-Horum Located in Nabas, Aklan. These cold spring water can feel you relaxed and can stay cool from the long tropical heat. These alternative summer destinations offer the beauty of fresh water gushing from nature-hewn rocks and exhilarating adventure down from Gibon river in a kayak.

Top 4

After a cool bathe from Basang Cold Spring why not get in touch with nature and enjoy the beautiful falls located in Tangalan, Aklan. It is the beautiful Jawili Falls.

Has seven basins tiered about 20 feet apart. The highest basin is about a 100 feet high, oval-shaped, around 240 sq. ft. in area and 12 feet deep with clear water almost like a small lake. The other basins are of similar shapes from 130 sq. ft to 240 sq. ft in area and 8-10 feet deep except the sixth basin, which has a swimming area of around 540 square feet.

After swimming in the seven basins of Jawili Falls have a detour to Tindog Falls Located in Madalag. It has a unique falls with its basin above instead of having it below the falls. Water cascades on a stair-like, carved stones.

Top 5

On my top 6 is the IGNITO CAVE. Locally known as Elephant Cave due to its appearance. This and other nearby caves are managed by the San Lorenzo Ruiz Farm Eco-Tourism Cooperative. Beautiful limestone formation of stalagmites, stalactites and other crystalline structures abound. It has a "skylight" in one of its chambers that lets in a soft glow of light at noontime.

It is located in Brgy. Tigum, Buruanga.

Top 6

On the top 7 is the Kalantiaw Shrine which is located in the quiet town of Batan, Aklan. Once the seat of government of Rajah Bendahara Kalantiaw promulgator of the famous Code of Kalantiaw. It is also where legend tells that it hid the great kalantiaw code.

After the historical sites of Kalantiaw Shrine, take a dip on the fine Ob-ob beach which is located in Brgy. Soncolan, Batan Aklan. And enjoy the view on the Ob-ob Hill where it stands 200 meters-high like a lighthouse where it faces the Sibuyan Sea.

Named after Datu Manduyog, successor of lawgiver Kalantiaw III. It is 500 feet high with life-size stations of the cross winding up the hillside and a chapel at the summit overlooking the countryside. Tropical fruit trees such as rambutan, mangosteen and lanzones abound in the school campus as well as pastureland and sprawling ricefields. This Historical Scenic place is called the Manduyog Hill which is located in Aklan State University in Banga, Aklan.

Top 10

The top 10 Aklan's beautiful spot is the Campo Verde. It is a man-made reforestation. On the border of Tangalan and Ibajay. Straddling the border of Tangalan and Ibajay, 28 kms. west of Kalibo, its 3,700 feet altitude makes it a perfect retreat in the hot summer months. Green pines, mahogany, acacia, ipil-ipil and butterfly trees draw visitors deeper into the woods - a hiker's paradise.
